It’s no secret that the best part of creating goals is the moment we accomplish them. You put in time, work, and all that you have into reaching a point that you set yourself days, weeks, or months prior. But what about after you meet your goals.
We don’t want you to just be satisfied meeting your goal, we want you to push for even more. Sometimes goals create boundaries, making it seem like once we achieve them we are done working, but that shouldn’t be the case. There’s so much more you can achieve if you let yourself, even in the smallest ways. Here are a few tips to help you not only reach your goals, but reach your next best.
Exercising is something that many people say they want to do, but find it so easy to skip or ignore, which won’t get you the results you want. So maybe you make the goal to go to the gym 3 times a week, great goal, but why stop there? With full schedule days and families to take care of, we realize it is unrealistic that you will be able to go to the gym every day of the week for a few hours. But what about implementing some workouts at home? Whether it’s a walk around the block with your family, or a quick ab workout before bed, there are ways to exercise outside of the gym and achieve more than your goal allows.
Maybe getting to the gym isn’t your problem, you have a routine you stick to and you’re actually doing just that; sticking to it. You shouldn’t stop there. Pushing yourself for just a few minutes longer, or adding a few more reps every time you work out really adds up in the end. You hit that 20 minute mark on the treadmill, push for 23 minutes, then the next time 25, and start over the next week. 20 minutes of cardio is a great goal, but you can do a little more, you can push yourself to go farther than you thought possible. Add a few more reps to your lifting routine, a couple more pushups, some extra lunges each leg, it doesn’t matter the exercise you’re doing, the point is you’re pushing yourself so you can achieve great things without overworking yourself.
The problem with dieting is that there’s an end to it. Making healthy eating choices is not just a diet, it’s a lifestyle change. Think about eating long term rather than just the new fad diet or eating to lose weight quick. Push yourself to make the lifestyle changes that aren’t too taxing: portion control and healthy substitutes for side dishes. Push yourself not to diet, but to change your food plans all together, you can create a healthier lifestyle.
