No matter who you are or how motivated you are, it can sometimes be difficult to stick to your fitness goals. Especially during the cold winter months, keeping the motivation that you started with can be tricky. We all want to reach our health and fitness goals in order to improve our overall wellness, and there are many simple solutions to get to these goals. Here are nine simple ways to stay on track, stay motivated, and reach your health and fitness goals.

Change your language. Sometimes the way that we talk about fitness may be a little discouraging. We need to stop saying “I have to go workout,” which makes it seem like a hassle to have to go do. We should be looking at our workout time as time away from everything else; away from work, away from the stress of a busy schedule. We should be thankful to have the time to relax, think, and improve our health and wellness in the process.

Pump yourself up. When you’re on the way to the gym or even if you workout at home, find a way to pump yourself up before you begin. Listening to music is a great way to get motivated and get ready for a great workout. Music can get you into a great mood which will make you want to push yourself harder during the workout.

Break your workout into segments. Many people tend to get discouraged because they think of everything that they have to do at one time. An hour of exercise can seem like a lot. Ten miles of running can seem impossible. Breaking your workout into segments can make it go faster, and can make it seem more realistic. Focusing on one set of things at a time is key to staying motivated during a workout. Focus on the next fifteen minutes rather than the next forty-five.

Visualize reaching your goal. You know what your goals are; imagine yourself reaching those goals. How great are you going to look? How great are you going to feel? Thinking about achieving your goals and imagining how awesome it will feel to have achieved them, is going to keep you motivated and push you even harder to keep going.

Remember fitness goals you’ve reached in the past. If you get discouraged during your fitness journey, think about successes that you’ve had in the past with your health and fitness. Think about goals you have reached in the past. By doing this, you are not only going to remember that it is possible, but you are also going to remember just how great you felt after reaching those goals.

Remind yourself of your current goals. Never forget why you started in the first place. There is a reason that you set these goal for yourself. What are you wanting to achieve and why do you want to achieve it? Constantly remind yourself of why you started, and you won’t have the urge to give up.

Find some competition. Having some good and friendly competition can really help motivate you to reaching your fitness goals. Find someone at your gym that has similar fitness goals to you. Find a fitness partner that’s willing to work with you and motivate you to reach your goals. Seeing someone going after the same goals as you is going to make you want to work even harder to reach them; if your fitness partner can succeed, then so can you.

Talk to yourself. As strange as this sounds, being your own motivation is just as essential as having someone else motivate you. Come up with your own mantra that you can repeat to yourself and that will keep you motivated. Think of a phrase that will push you and keep you going until your workout is complete, until you have reached your fitness goals.

Don’t push too hard. While it’s great to stay motivated, you don’t want to push so hard that you wear yourself out. Not everyday at the gym can be a full speed ahead workout; some days you just might not be in the mood. So when you’re feeling worn down, go to the gym or wherever you go to workout, warm up, and do one or two things that you really enjoy about your workout. This will prevent you from getting burnt out on your workout routine.

No matter what your health and fitness goals are, taking these simple steps to stay motivated is going to make a difference. We know it can be difficult to stay 100% motivated every day of your fitness journey, but it doesn’t have to be difficult at all. Staying motivated and reaching your goals can be simple if you take the right steps.
