Body Workz Wellness is all about balance, enjoying life and living to your fullest. We are enjoying a series that features how to eat out and make healthy choices around town. An excellent choice for a cup of coffee and a sweet treat is The Cupcakerie. The store is centrally located and has a beautiful space for sipping coffee and relaxing for a few minutes.
Anna McCarty Carrier and Janet Nelson Williams grew up here in Morgantown. They met when Anna was interning at the law office that Janet was working and became friends as they discussed their love for food and wine, cooking, and baking. Janet wanted to start a cupcake store and asked Anna if she would join her in the business venture. In January 2011 they begin six months of experimenting and perfecting the recipes and ingredients and started selling from their current location in September of that year. Since opening, they have earned Morgantown Magazine’s Best of Morgantown Best Sweet Indulgence for six years in a row and WV Living Magazine’s Best Cake/Dessert for two years in a row.
With something different to do every day, the store is never dull. Anna loves that they make beautiful and delicious products from fresh ingredients. They also lessen the carbon footprint of the shop by using as local ingredients as possible. The Cupcakerie bakes from scratch every single day with eggs from the Morgantown area, as well as produce, honey and other ingredients they purchase at the local farmer’s market.
